This won't solve your sleigh ride issue - at least, I couldn't see anything but free-scores is good for free music.

How's it going people? I've not done much these last few days as the new PC arrived and moving to it has taken/is taking up some time. Things should calm down really soon...
I hope all is well!

Have been practising a few Christmas pieces including the Coventry Carol which I will attempt to record when a couple of very awkward bars have been beaten into submission. When it is time to say goodbye to this MacBook Pro I may have a look at ChromeBooks. Don't want to spend in excess of £1k on another Apple likely to be offered without usb inputs. Good luck commissioning the new PC.

I love that! It makes me feel better when other people have recalcitrant bars though all my bars are pretty tetchy! Agree over the Mac. I used the Mac for years then went to PC (and Windows) and then to Linux where I am now. I had iPods though and I bought a really good iPad for use during chemo for when I wasn't well enough to make it to the PC. However, it developed a fault which wasn't economic to repair and the prices of the things made me go all funny. I'm really a whacking great PC on a desk person. Re Christmas music - I'm in a quandary. I haven't played anything for so long that everything feels new... I'm not sure what to aim at! Choices! Choices! PS PC is now up and running but still missing some bits and pieces. It even talks to the printer.

I'm like the road to hell - full of good intentions... I do have a couple of tidy greenhouses, all the bulbs planted, plants under cover... a Christmas cake made... I've even moved to the very latest version of Ubuntu on my new PC (Mr Z thought I was rash!) But have I picked up a recorder - no! I'm close to shouting Help!

This morning didn't do a bad job playing the Christmas songs and carols that give me most pleasure (to play...singing might be different). Now beginning to think about music needed for the January piano group. In the garden I have spent some time this week sweeping leaves but there is still much tidying to do.

Does that mean the group doesn't meet in December? Or is that music sorted?
I played some carols today - on the descant. I've forgotten most of it but at least the carols were fun.

This sums up the laptop issue quite nicely. I don't do anything "mission critical" on a laptop so I generally buy 2nd hand ones. I recently replaced my laptop with a 2-year-old one that's almost pristine, more than good enough for my requirements, and cost little more than a third of the cost of a new one.
I agree about a big lump of hardware sitting on a desk. You can replace things that go wrong, update bits and bobs as needed, etc. My requirements are pretty basic these days but I have an expensive, good quality keyboard that is much nicer to use than anything that ever graced a laptop, and a nice big screen that accommodates lots of content at a size that I can actually see.
As far as Christmas carols go, hmmm... I did a tiny bit of playing around with them before going on holiday. Got back a few days ago and still moderately jetlagged so haven't done much since, though I'm intending to have a bash at something later today. If I can stay awake that long!

OH has an old desk top running Windows XP. She likes it because it gives her direct access to her own file storage directories. Looks like we need to take it to a repair shop because it no longer recognises her camera or external storage devices when they are plugged into USB ports.

Today is near enough. After all I've been agonising about what to cook for tonight's dinner....do I start to slow cook the Christmas gammon or leave it until tomorrow...will leave it for now. Just been washing up all the wine glasses we are likely to use.
Not played carols for a few days as of now beginning to concentrate on Tchaikovksy's January.

I've just iced the cake. I suppose that Christmas doesn't end till Twelfth Night so I still have time to do *something*...
I have come to a couple of conclusions about me and music. One is that I'm not going to be able to play the harp using all fingers because my a couple of fingers on my right hand are just too damaged to put under that strain. I'm going to be a two finger harpist I think!
It's definitely good to get things done before tomorrow...

Just heard on Radio 3 at the end of a programme called Music Planet an arrangement of the carol While Shepherds Watched to the tune of Ilkley Moor Bart Hat. I was sorely tempted to sing along with my own words;
While shepherds watched their flock by night, On Ilkley Moor bart hat, etc
