One at a time would do me as well! I think I've forgotten everything. Had a bad night last night and am a bit wobbly this morning so won't be doing anything much today but I am getting enthusiastic about starting out yet again so that's good news. Recipe is on the list to make today depending how I feel. I cook a lot of Italian influenced meals so I'm surprised I hadn't come across this. I checked *the* book I mostly go to for Italian cooking and sure enough they have a spinach version. I'm pretty sure one could do all kinds of things with it. I do like recipes like that - easily changed, don't need exotic things and look lovely on the table. I know I bat on about gaming - it's been a thing I've done since my first computer a very long time ago - anyway, I've been playing Sim3 this year and the music has really got to me. It's sometimes very clever. It will play with motifs, change tempo, deliver roughly the same thing but in calypso for example and it's really fun recognising the little motifs dancing through the music. So, I might look for something that might work on the treble or the clarinet. It'll be way beyond me at the moment - of course!

As of tomorrow, Christmas now only 3 months away. Only just saying! This challenge had not slipped my mind. I haven't touched the violin since spring but perhaps the darker evenings may give incentive to resume.

'So little time to pass' said Merlin. And a big tear ran down his nose.
It hasn't slipped my mind either because I don't think I have one.
At the rate I'm going, I'll be doing the Christmas challenge on the descant recorder!

Anyway, I've just realised you didn't give us an update on how you're doing, Pavane! How are things?

Update is: I have made a mental note that I now have slightly less than 3 months to go!

For us it's less than that as we think Christmas starts on December 1st... maybe I should rethink that one...

Nearly November now... I'm considering panicking. How's everyone else doing?

I think I might already have mentioned this, but I dragged out my Christmas music a while ago and had a quick look through, and my main problem is that most of it is either too easy or too hard. I have, for example, this book of carols (I say carols, some are more along the lines of American Christmas songs, but hey ho) that just has the basic melody for each carol. They are so easy I can pretty much sight-read the lot of them. To be fair, I only paid about €2 as I bought it in a sale last January, and there is a CD of backings so it's a bit of fun, but it's not exactly a challenge, and it would take longer to assemble a woodwind instrument than to play any of the tunes. The Jazzy Christmas series, on the other hand, has some quite challenging pieces in it. You can get them for a variety of instruments; I've got both the recorder and clarinet versions and I've been struggling with a couple of things in them for years. Perhaps I'll go all out to do one piece well this year.
I never really got around to doing anything much about the lyre challenge, so maybe I should stick with simple but play it on the lyre and kill two challenges with one tune.

I wish I could say that something wasn't much of a challenge... But maybe you're finding, finding a challenge - a challenge? The lyre sounded brilliant. I'm sure it will sound wonderful.

I am not retrieving my Christmas books until the 1st of November! At that stage I will probably revise the jazz arrangements started last year and see if there is anything else to embark upon.

I have been assuming mine are in the drawer in the music room but actually maybe they're lurking in my study... I think the year has gone past without my playing a great deal either because of injuries, life-things etc etc. The being 70 thing was huge because I never thought I'd get there! But overall, I think I'm more than a bit fed up with me! I'll try for the 1/11/23 thing too... but once the puter hits the desk I just know I'll be sucked in by it and its needs... * Does your piano group go all Christmassy, keff ? *Real and/or imaginary...

There have been some years when I didn't get out the carol books until Christmas Day afternoon. In some way playing carols on Christmas Day after lunch is a calming influence. What I don't like about the Christmas to New Year holiday is that I usually get very bored...nothing to do, nowhere to go, days too short or weather atrocious.

I love Christmas carols. It's the simplicity and predictability, I suspect. We have a kind of routine which we go through. Again, I guess the predictability is calming... we always watch 'Independence Day'... But I can understand how that time of the year can seem grim. As you say, the weather can be horrendous then but usually the worst weather comes shortly afterwards.
Do you ever get two people doing the same piece at the group?
