It is a good video and a great antidote to all those ones that claim you really can tell the difference between a piece of string and something that costs hundreds. Only of much interest to clarinet or sax players I suppose. What about a gadgets thread? That might be of more general interest because gadget videos can be fun even if you don't play the cello or whatever. On the subject of string, lots of German clarinet players still use string. My most expensive mouthpiece is my Wurlitzer, but my cheapest ligature is also a Wurlitzer (I actually went mad and bought both the waxed and the unwaxed one). It's still an expensive piece of string but I also got a cheaper one and the string is thinner and needs more turns, so the expensive one does give some benefit. It's surprisingly easy to learn to tie it on, only a problem if you want to do a quick reed change.
I have a clarinet lamp! I bought a really cheap plastic one to try out and it was a useful experience but was basically a piece of junk; I'd seen the lamp thing and decided to try it. It works with a switch on the chord at the moment but I have bought a touch detector and I'm going to try soldering it to one of the keys, but haven't got around to that yet. And yes, like the t-shirt too!

I couldn't hear a difference that I'd be prepared to swear to. I accept some people can and he could. I love the way he finished with buy whatever ligature you want and be happy but don't get into fights over it.
It's a wonderful vid and yes a gadgets thread would be good because there are gadgets for all kinds of instruments, and for playing... And some of us clearly love gadgets!

OK - I'm now totally smitten with the Legere reed I'm using. Even my husband think it sounds better and it can't possibly be me that's made the difference as I haven't played the clarinet for several days! Unless of course, I improve by not playing! That would be a relief to Mr Z!

I've now tried a Forestone reed 1.5 ... it really is a different sound... I wouldn't have thought that it could make too much difference to a beginner. It's a surprise.
