Info passed onto husband who is the member of the household who watches TV. He loves those art programs where everyone gets a few hours to paint a portrait and then he disagrees with the judges. I am certain he'll love this!  |

Brilliant, thanks for the heads-up on this! I've just got next week's TV magazine and it's a 5-part series. The winner gets to play at the Royal Festival Hall, oh wow, how fantastic for some amateur pianist

I 'flattened' the animated ones as I'm a bit worried about anyone who might be affected by them. If there are any people would like - then just say and I'll search through. I just put in some music ones and the  one. |

A programme about amateur pianists and it started with a warning of bad language and descriptions of drug abuse; surely not.

I set it to record, but haven't watched it yet. I have found when recording myself that it's convenient to be able to edit out the occasional shouty bit.

Sadly I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I found the running commentary between Lang Lang and his singer colleague (I gather he's famous but I didn't know him) quite irritating, particularly the singer. No prizes for guessing that a nice tune sensitively played wasn't going to win....

Mr Z would 'enjoy' this. The painting version drives him to despair... I don't watch TV but occasionally I happen to pass when he is watching and I point out useful things like: That person doesn't know how to go about a drawing/painting etc etc - inevitably that almost clueless person seems to win...

One wonders just how much the producers influence the choice of winner since their priority is making good telly. A few years ago there was a televised competition between amateur orchestras and the only one to play in tune was knocked out during the first round.

I can understand the rationale there because if you kept the one that could play in tune then they'd show up all the ones who couldn't... |

I believe tonight's episode is from Leeds. It is a station I know very well since I spent my childhood not more than five miles away. The station is attached to an iconic Leeds building, the Queens Hotel, at the side of City Square.
