First of all....very well played. Must have taken a great deal of work. Are you able to tell us more about the piece and how you recorded it? Thanks! It was indeed a lot of work. The piece is one of 24, 10 have been written so far and I have transcribed all in first draft ie. they still need to be corrected, except for this one. It is inspired by Bach, and grew out of some improvised arpeggi. I think I related the story of how it came about - he sent me the first iteration, then I transposed it down twice and he altered it, to save him writing it all out. It is in 3 sections a minor third down each time, and the last section is back in C minor(ish). It was a lot of work to learn because there are a lot of accidentals - some parts are in C flat minor - and it goes through a lot of different keys. I love the harmony but it was a real headache first to notate, and then to learn. But I got used to it. It is named after the Angelus prayer. Not being Catholic, I probably don't get the significance of this. I recorded it on my Kawai K6-AS (which unfortunately needs tuning), on a Zoom H4N hooked up to an iPad. I did not post the video as it is then not anonymous but I will be submitting that for my piano teacher's contemporary music festival.

I'm totally in awe of your playing. It's an incredible performance, corenfa, and I'm really delighted you shared it with us. I have wondered how it was going. I'm not good at asking questions - I always think that if someone wants me to know, they'll tell me. But I have wondered how you were doing. So, it's wonderful to see how it's come to fruition!
It sounds as if it is quite physically demanding as well - aside from the intellectual effort that has to go into it. I do wonder sometimes if composers think about how it will 'feel' to perform their pieces. But it must be quite something to see a piece develop and grow and then reach performance stage. I know you have composed your own music but working with someone else must be different. You know what you mean but when it's someone else you are interpreting them. Is that harder?
How do you feel about it all now you've got this far?
We need a bravo multiplied by at least a 100 smiley!

Corenfa - if you want it moved to the forum's private area then just say. You have to be logged on to see that and there is a minimum post requirement. It's not exactly 'private' - nothing on the web is - but it's a bit more private than this...

I learnt this while not living full-time at my own flat due to relationship breakdown - I would come back a few times a week to practise. It is indeed quite physically demanding and it has actually improved my technique for other pieces. The hardest thing was actually adding the rubato to make it "breathe" musically. At first he refused to put in any dynamic or tempo markings, saying it was up to the performer. But after a few discussions he said that he did have an idea of how the different sections should go, so he marked everything in. I think it is hard work to learn any music whether it is someone else's or my own. I do feel very privileged that I can work with an alive composer. There will probably be future posts with the rest of the pieces but... given how long it took me to work up this one, they will probably be far between.

I did try to blur it out, but did not do a good job. So I just ripped the audio

Is that a yes please move it? Hmmm I'm not sure how to say this so I'll just say it. I feel really honoured to have had that shared with us here. Especially, as you told us about it when it was being composed. And wow can you play! I hope he likes it! And is pleased.

No, the soundcloud link is OK to stay here, as it is audio only and does not have my face in it. I meant only that I would not post the video even in the private area. I have sent it to him but he has not listened to it yet, he was happy with the last one I sent so I anticipate he would be happy with this "official" one.

I do hope you will share. We can't wave magic wands - I would if I could - but we're on your side! You've had a tough time and the fact that you've done this and dealt with all that is a testament to a strong will!

I am definitely up for sharing, the only thing that stops me from doing it is that I won't until I have managed to play it to a level that I am happy with...
