Corenfa, that sounds like great corroboration and a fantastic way of using the internet.

I agree with keff. It sounds fascinating. I guess the coming to the same and similar conclusions might well be because of your knowledge of music. Apparently experts can share very similar pictures of how things can be. I can't remember where I came across that... I don't think it was about music though.
It sounds like you're really enjoying the process and gaining a lot of insight from it. But as you say, you're a long way apart and the fact you can work together on something (and agree) must make it very rewarding.

Yes, I have really missed musical collaboration. I am not an expert though, he is.
I feel like this is what the internet was made for rather than fake news...

I remember the internet in its infancy and we had such hopes for it. The first forums and bulletin boards - all text, really awkward to use but it was much less competitive, more helpful, kinder. I really hate the unkindness, the arrogance, the unhelpfulness, the spite... it makes no sense to me at all. Why bother saying something untrue or nasty... sigh...
Anyway, it's really nice to hear how you're enjoying the composing again and that working on something with someone is bringing joy.

I remember rec.music.makers.classical. There were precisely two people on it from the country that I was from. I met a trumpet player on it who happened to go to the university I was going to and we dated briefly. It really was a much more welcoming place and I felt knew everybody in the group like friends.

Yes, it was like that. You could make friends and it wasn't the unsafe place it is now. I use to belong to some gaming forums but I got fed up with how unkind people were and often to people building mods. What that was about I don't know. They were producing stuff for free. If you don't like it then walk away. But no, they had to put to be nasty. And competitive. Gee... what's that about? Art forums got like that. They'd be people painting for a hobby and someone would develop the notion that they were Leonardo. I got fed up with that too. I've done the 'having a profession' and having to work hard at it; now I just want to play and dabble. If it doesn't work out then I try something else or I accept it's never going to be Olympic standard... I don't do anything that doesn't bring joy and make me smile and I most certainly don't want to make anyone else sad in the process. Seen quite enough grief.
Anyway - rant over. It's nice you share you experiences. It's nice to see how other people experience music and what they do with it.
edit - Oh and I ought to add I like it here. It's calm and peaceful and kind! I like kind!

Just recorded the first piece, approximately, to send to composer. Very approximate and under tempo but it is still magical to see that some hand written scrawlings became that.

Has the composer said anything about tempo?

Has the composer said anything about tempo? Yes, he was very specific. But I cannot play it at that speed yet. He said it was still helpful as he cannot play it himself right now

Are you intending to bring it up to the specified tempo? I have just started to learn the secondo part of a duet and can sight read it at about 72 bpm and to me this sounds ok. However it specifies 92 so I think I will have to spend some time with the primo part which I think will show my slower tempo makes the music drag along somewhat. The person who has suggested playing the duet lives about 25 miles away so I intend sending a recording in a few weeks time.

magical to see that some hand written scrawlings became that I can imagine. It's made me smile. I can imagine hearing it after seeing the process. As you say, 'magical' would sum it up. I bet it felt very special indeed to see it as a living piece.

He said not more than crotchet = 72. I think 72 is a bit fast, but I am playing it about 40 right now and that is definitely very under tempo.

I have just measured my duet with a metronome and what I thought was 72 is more like 60 . My part has semiquavers in the RH whilst the primo part has crotchets. I shall have to aim for 72 at the very least. Grrrrrrr.

It's interesting to see your progress and reactions. Some things I will now experience only by proxy!
