That model is certainly on my list. It does feel remarkably like an acoustic. But I need to blag my way into a posh piano shop and try an acoustic grand in order to compare too.. And I'd also like to try the Yamaha AvantGrand. A Kawai K6 must be very much like a grand that takes up less room.

In a piano showroom, probably hard to record without picking up everyone else trying pianos. Now that I'm a more experienced pianist I can tell a lot more by playing myself. I also know better what to listen for. I got my acoustic in 2013 so it's been quite a journey since then.
The model I got was actually the K6-AS which has a middle sostenuto pedal, so it's even more like a grand. I really like it and after ten years it's mellowed a lot.

I am lucky to have a really well stocked music shop just a couple of miles away. They sell all types of instruments so floor space is limited but nevertheless they squeeze in roughly nine upright pianos, a couple of baby grands, some digitals, electronic church organs, loads of keyboards, drum kits, guitars and just about everything else. The baby grands in stock last week were a Kawai GL10 and Yamaha GB1K. If I wish to try a Kawai NV10-S it is probably a fifty mile trip to Greater Manchester or seventy miles to Leeds and I would still need to check they had one in stock before travelling.
I think Kawai do have a more mellow sound than Yamaha.

I'm now looking for a new electric piano, as my 26-year-old Yamaha is finally giving up the ghost. It might be fixable, but I'm about 15 years overdue an upgrade anyway.
For me, there are practical reasons it has to be digital. Money, space and thin walls, basically.

but I'm about 15 years overdue an upgrade anyway. That seems reason enough to me. Do you have a model in mind?

I was considering a Kawai E120, but I've just now spotted a weird pricing anomaly - a nearby music shop appears to be selling the Β£900-ish Yamaha P-225 for Β£200 LESS if you get a stand and stool with it.
