I've picked up the recorder today (and not in anger)... I've been playing through a book of carols for the descant and I've got a version of Greensleeves ( What Child is This?) This version has a D# followed by a C# (ie bottom D and C on the descant) and wow is that seriously tricky for these ancient and haven't practised nearly enough this year fingers... I can't remember ever coming across that particular transition before either...

It is raining cats and dogs in the north west so is just the weather for instrument practice.

It's been wet, cold and windy here. I've been making Christmas wreaths... But I'm really trying to get back into playing. I think it's going to be my new year's resolution. I've done a lot of weaving this year - I have to find a balance...

It's funny how one comes across something like this that is both really awkward and surprisingly new. I'm playing something on the clarinet at the moment that has a quick Bb-C-Bb transition (that's throat Bb, ie just the throat A key and the register key, followed by every single finger, and back to Bb) and it's a nightmare, and I can't find any sort of shortcut for it. I don't remember ever having to play it before. Your D# - C# sounds equally grim. Is there any way you can fudge the shorter note? Otherwise I can't imagine ever playing it at any kind of speed.
Which leads me nicely to: I find playing lower pitch instruments a big advantage here, because they sound better played slowly than higher pitched instruments do, imho!
