We're listening to Flanders Quartet "Nowell, Nowell!" They're a group of recorder players. They discuss the making of the album here: Flanders Quartet and play some of the album - snippets. So, is anyone all Christmassy yet? I know we're a bit quick off the mark... and Christmas decorations up on 1st would drive some people spare...

We haven't started on Christmas yet at all (though I have done a bit of trying to play some Christmassy stuff). We're away for a couple of days next week, back on 8th and, as that is the traditional date for starting, that's what we've decided to do. We've got a pretty grim CD of so-called Jazz Christmas Classics but it's traditional that we subject ourselves to it - next Friday is the night!

We've got a double album of The Best Ever Christmas Songs (or some such title) - always fear anything called 'The Best Ever'... some of it is OK but some is dire... but we've had it a long time and it has to have its airing but closer to 'real' Christmas... We're at Michala Petri today - we have a couple of (Christmassy) recordings with her and a choir - they're both delightful and it always sounds as if everyone is having a great time.

I miss being able to play a vinyl LP of some orchestral Christmas pieces recorded by the Halle orchestra. I keep thinking about purchasing a new turntable with built in preamp but then wonder where I will put it.
