I may have found the ultimate gadget for recorders. It's a recorder fingering stamp. It's self-inking and prints a blank fingering stamp which you then fill in. I'm just wondering if that would mean all my books get filled with stamps or I'd be too appalled to use them. I hardly ever mark my scores. It's usually only when I'm desperate...

I have always written in my scores, fingerings and various other reminders. I use a propelling pencil.

I've ordered the ultimate gadget. Along with some books of rounds. I'll say more when they arrive. I'm hoping that rounds will get me playing again as I've always liked them.
Re pencils - I use the red and black striped ones in 2B (I bet you'll know the ones) but Smiths used to stock a pink 2B version which was equally good. haven't been to Smiths for years so don't know if they still do it. I wish I could get on with propelling pencils as they're so convenient but I can't. I use the 2B so there's always a (brass) pencil sharpener on my desk. I really think writing on the score is a good thing to do and when I buy second hand I love seeing what people have written but either I can't think of anything sensible to write and/or I can't bring myself to do it.

The fingering stamp sounds great. I make notes for myself by putting either 1 or 2 (or I/II, I'm not very consistent) to try to indicate whether to use the primary or 2ary fingering, but occasionally I use them the other way around and forget, or there is a 3ary fingering and I don't know what to write. My only concern is that if the stamp is a moderate size it won't fit between 2 lines of music, and if it will fit between 2 lines of music, it will be too small for me to see.

I've spent my entire life being short-sighted so 'corrected' with contact lenses or glasses... but now it's being cancelled out and I'm not sure what I think of it. When I had my eyes tested recently, the optician said he had the same thing so it's difficult to know whether to bother with glasses in the house. However, (and at last I come to the point), I can no longer see that really small print they use for agreements and guarantees... I have variofocal glasses but they still get in the way some of the time so I'm constantly taking them off. I've lost one pair of (old) glasses because I left them somewhere - probably in the wilderness we call a wilderness... The actual stamp (as it appears on the page) is about 4.6cm long and 1.7cm wide. It's quite big. If you stamped that all over your music it would probably be seriously distracting. But for the odd one on a page to help nudge the ageing memory it's fine. I really like that stamp thing - partly because actually I can't think of many gadgets for a recorder. I suspect that some instruments are more likely to attract gadgets. I wonder what the most gadget attracting instrument is? That's probably enough burble for one day...

I suspect that some instruments are more likely to attract gadgets. I wonder what the most gadget attracting instrument is? I'm only guessing here, but based on players I know, I think the guitar would at least be a strong contender for the top slot. Apart from the fact that all guitar players seem to own about a dozen of them (speaking as someone who owns a fair few recorders and several clarinets, that part sounds fine) there are: - tuners that clip to the guitar
- tuners that don't clip to the guitar
- assorted plectrums
- finger picks
- capos
- straps
- special seats of various heights with built-in foot rests
- spare strings
- heavy strings, light strings
- slides - metal, glass, light, heavy, long, short, etc
- etc etc etc
If you play electric guitar, you can then add in: - tuners that connect electrically to the guitar
- amplifiers (lots!)
- leads
- effects pedals (lots!)
- optional pickups
- etc etc etc
There are probably other categories of goodies as well!

A duster to keep them clean? I agree over guitar - I wonder if it really is the most accessorizable instrument ever?
