keff I really like those stories. I particularly like the Michelangeli cancelling if the piano was off-colour! Brilliant!

I've been wondering about the sound thing because sound is affected by where it occurs and by the natural acoustics in the room. I know headphones change sound considerably. And what people hear isn't the same which is why we all tend to adjust our equipment to our taste. corenfa - when you tried the piano in the showroom did you use headphones? I'm assuming you're used to the acoustics there because you said you'd bought from the same shop many times. Being able to factor in that particular acoustic experience must be a great boon and one of the reasons for trying things out in the same place. I wonder if one should advise people who are intending to buy a piano to try it out in different places... I'm probably burbling! Ignore me if I am.

I tried the piano in a different shop where I bought it from. I wasn't bothered about acoustics because I didn't expect it to mimic the sound of a real piano anyway. I was more concerned about the feel.
