Do you do much with the different voices, corenfa? It's handy that you have a dealer nearby - I dread to think where Mr Z would need to go if he came over all new piano. In one of the neighbouring towns we have a well stocked music shop where I purchased my upright many years ago. They still have a good selection of uprights and digital pianos and no doubt could supply baby grands such as the Kawai GL10 relatively quickly. If however I wanted to find a piano store where I could play a good selection of grands or very top of the range digitals before purchase I would have to travel at least fifty miles in the direction of Manchester, or seventy five over to Leeds. Bonners looks to be a larger piano supplier but the nearest one to me is in Milton Keynes which must be approaching two hundred miles.

No- I am not into anything other than piano at the moment I'm not sure how serious those voices are. I have listened to some and they seem to have come a long way from how they were - my father had a couple of electric organs and he played about with 'voices'. Mr Z has played around (in a playful sense) with a fair ground sound and church organ and harpsichord. I don't think he plays anything using voices in any kind of serious way. I'll have to ask him. @keff - Those are quite some distances. The only one I know anything about in any real sense is Milton Keynes - I've been there only a few times - and then you'd have to deal with the roundabouts which all look identical.

At the moment, the delay is that Kawai took too long to get back to my piano guy (my household has bought 4 pianos from him) so it can't be delivered till he gets back from holiday. I don't mind waiting to have it done right

There's a lot to be said about going back to a place you can trust.

That actually made me more happy about the delay rather than less That kind of assurance would make me feel reassured too. I tend to stick to the known when it comes to the suppliers of things. Mostly I can't stand the 'excitement' a new supplier quite often means... Does it feel like a 'present' or is it a 'tool'? Or a mixture of both - I guess... I've been wondering about that.

Hmm I guess both. I got my acoustic piano 10 years ago, and the previous digital is older than that. I know piano is a lifelong thing for me so the new one is definitely a tool. But it's a very nice one so it's also a present. It did cost a bit, but that's what savings are for, and I don't drink or smoke so my expenses are minimal.

Agreed over the savings thing. I think it's really important to make sure you do those things you really want to do. Waiting for some milestone in the future is not always such a good idea.

I wouldn't have rushed out and put it on my credit card, but neither would I have waited to pay off the mortgage first. It'll be a good long term investment (in the personal satisfaction sense, not the monetary sense)

Mortgages. Arghhhh! And I no longer have one but I remember the bruises. The idea of long term personal satisfaction has made me smile - it's so much wiser and better than any other investment. Has it arrived yet?

Not long! Has the previous one gone to its new home?

Not long! Has the previous one gone to its new home? It goes tomorrow, so for 24 hours we will have 4 pianos in the same flat all from the same shop. I told my piano person I'm not trying to set up a competing shop, honest.
