But would it not require a B flat clarinet? Suppose I could detune the violin. It might be easier for you to learn clarinet as well rather than trying to duet with me!

I bought a very cheap copy of TV Themes. As I don't watch TV, all of the tunes apart from The Flintsones and The Simpsons, may as well be from a different planet. The Coronation Street Theme is way way too difficult for me at present because I have only a couple of the notes! It was even problematic on the treble recorder because I'm missing several flats. I ran through a bit with the treble and The Collie joined in with gusto so I bet she'll love the clarinet version if/when I get there so it's made someone happy! It's been nicely done though and has a CD. The blurb says 'carefully selected and edited top line arrangements' which is nice...
The weather predictions for here for the next 5 days or so are that it will struggle to get above freezing, be wet and maybe snowy. However the model is in flux so who knows. At present we're working on the principle that we won't be digging any more beds until things dry up and get a smidgen warmer so hopefully I'll get more playing done this week than I got done last week - it was all digging and stuff last week. Once the weather improves we have many trees to plant so I doubt much playing will happen then.

I saw a version of Coronation Street theme on Google and it was in G minor. If it is any help I could transcribe into B minor and it would then contain an F and F sharp.
It is raining on the west coast so there goes my chance to cut the lawn. I did prune back a cherry laurel last week as well as trimming a beech hedge.

keff - That's so kind! It's made me smile but any sharps or flats are out of the question on the clarinet (I don't even know how you get them!) In reality I have 5 notes - CDEFG. I can actually look at those notes and go to the correct fingering now - more or less. And the new thumb rest has improved things a great deal (I don't use a sling now because I can't figure out how to fix it to the new thumb rest but it's not so necessary either). I didn't realise playing the clarinet would be so demanding of my other non-existent skills. We did some pruning last week too but we tree surgeons here last year so that has helped a lot. It's just planting new trees and digging the new beds. Effectively we bought a field and a very large briar patch so it's been hard work. There's a bit of me wishes we'd bought this house a while ago when we were both a lot younger but I wouldn't swap it for the world. We bought it to give The Collie a better environment as I couldn't have got her the last bit of her journey without this help - the place has healed her. My only issue is that I feel we have to zoom ahead with it so that we get to see as much as possible take off - we want it as a haven for wildlife at least for as long as we can make that happen. Et après moi, le déluge. I didn't realise that originally the music was called The Lancashire Blues.

I didn't realise that originally the music was called The Lancashire Blues. Always makes me think of my first trip to Manchester to be interviewed for a university place. It was pouring down and as I made my way from the station to the college building all I remember was passing a number of very large red brick buildings whilst expecting to find Coronation St around the next corner. These days I know Manchester very much better. It is a great place with lots of fine architecture, theatres and of course the Bridgewater Hall.

I came across this site about bell ringing. It really makes for an interesting read. bellringing.org/I'm not surprised some people end up a bit sore from time to time. It sounds like quite a physical skill.

No one rang the bell locally. I think they find it hard enough to get someone to play the (electric) organ - so I doubt they have any bell ringers. I'm not even sure if the bell still 'works' or whatever it is that bells do...
