Apparently there's a new "Ring for the King" campaign as there's a shortage of bell-ringers to ring on coronation day. Perhaps I've seen too many Ealing comedies where the bell-ringer gets hauled up into the tower, but bell-ringing has always struck me as being a dangerous activity. I know someone who's learning to ring the bells and she's got burns on her hands. I rest my case!
And I hate to say it but it also looks quite boring, just standing there tugging at the same rope which always makes the same sound (I'll run and hide now in case there are any avid bell-ringers around)

I know a bell ringer - he's a friend of a friend. He is possibly the most extraordinarily boring person I know. He lives on his own and I used to meet him fairly regularly on Christmas day because the friend whose friend he is used to invite him, and us, to the pub for a festive pint. We'd have our drinks and then go our separate ways and, outside the pub as we were leaving, it would always transpire that he was off home for his Christmas lunch - of sausage sandwiches. Mrs P took pity on him one year and (somewhat alarmingly) invited him to join us; luckily he declined on the basis that he preferred sausage sandwiches to whatever we were having.
I haven't seen him for years as, unlikely though this sounds, we had a falling out, not that I would see him much anyway as we now live in different countries. I gather he still rings bells, but is more boring than he used to be as he has now retired so doesn't have work to talk about. Hey ho.

Perhaps he took up a lot of new hobbies and is now super-interesting? Or is busy collecting number plates... I discussed bell-ringing with Mr Z and we agreed that I'd be the person who disappeared into the bell tower attached to the bell. We just know it. And alarmingly, I'd find it funny for a while at least. I've just listened to the winners of the bell-ringing competition ringing bells and I can confirm that it goes on for a lot longer than the bell-ringing contests in Midsomer Murders... but I bet they're all super fit. I've always wondered how the smiley you used, could be used, evergreen so I'm glad I didn't delete it! Excellent use of smiley!

It's a very useful smiley sometimes!
I feel as if I've done bell-ringing a bit of a disservice, so to balance it up, here is the link to the Ring for the King campaign, which tells you what's involved in learning to ring the bells and how you can get in touch with a teacher.

I would LOVE to do that! We don't have any churches here that have peals, otherwise I would definitely have offered. Our church only has a single bell which you have to stand outside (usually in the rain) to ring, so is less appealing (pun not intended).

It's a good job the next monarch is a king because "Ring for the Queen" doesn't have quite the same... er... ring about it

It will be the first opportunity to play the Coronation Street theme at the Coronation.

Minor key may make it too difficult for my violin expertise but may be able to do it in A minor. I will have a look.

Whatever key it's in it'll be too difficult for my clarinet non-expertise. However, no one can accuse me of not travelling hopefully so I've ordered clarinet TV themes...

It's over a weekend 6th to 8th May - that's months away.

The two of you could do a duet - if the Coronation Street theme proves a bit tricky, this looks straightforward and could be regarded as appropriate. Clarinet part in C and the whole thing is slow - the tempo is described as "gentle".

I can't duet by myself let alone subjecting anyone else to me! I had a look at the first line. On any recorder that is easy but on the clarinet it may as well be written in Vulcan! However, I'll see what the music is like when it arrives and with my newfound composing 'expertise' maybe I'll rewrite it!

But would it not require a B flat clarinet? Suppose I could detune the violin.
