If you play a clarinet or a saxophone, you need a ligature to clamp the reed to the mouthpiece. They used to be fairly simple affairs, basically a metal band with a couple of screws - this sort of thing. But, things being what they are, all sorts of manufacturers produce alternatives, pretty much all of which are "guaranteed" to improve some aspect or other of your playing. Not satisfied with a simple chrome plated metal hoop (and the Yamaha one is quite expensive for its type)? Maybe you would sound better playing this or, if speed is essential, this might be better. There is a lovely debunking video about this:
Sorry if you have already seen this because I posted it on a different thread earlier.
My absolute favourite ligature gadget is a Silverstein one that aims to give the benefits of a string ligature while being easier to use. You can see one here. The somewhat simpler item it aims to imitate is here - and that's a posh one! It does take an hour or so to learn to tie it, but the price difference does offer a bit of an incentive

I love gadgets! And I'm still tempted by a non-metal ligature no matter what he says! It's a lovely vid though - he's fun and kind!
