Birdsong for the last 60 minutes as I cleared a flower bed for this year's growth. Had a robin for company.
My wife often says something along the lines of "it was nice listening to the birds this morning" to which I reply "lots of people prefer their version of Mr Tambourine Man to Dylan's original". The quality of repartee in the Pavane household is simply matchless.
Edit to add: I'm listening to the long slow movement of the Hammerklavier at the moment, my favourite bit of Beethoven.

This is the rhythm I've suddenly 'got'! And what I'm listening to right now.
This is by a group who perform Hardy'd Wessex dances and carols on authentic instruments.
And you have to see this - this is the animation of the dance to go with it...
Brilliant!

I'm listening to one of my favourite jazz albums. Why? Just something I'm in the mood for. And nobody plays bass clarinet quite like Eric Dolphy.

Is jazz a default listen to? You know, the type of music you'll listen to if there are no other constraints?

I mostly listen to "classical" music, but after that, jazz would be my second choice. Mrs P likes jazz to, and we enjoy going to jazz festivals. When we go on holiday we always check whether there are any jazz venues available - in fact, we've been known to take the availability of a decent jazz venue into account when choosing a holiday destination.

Which jazzfests have you been to, pavane? I went to a few several years ago (Bude, Upton, Kendal) but I haven't been recently, and Kendal no longer exists now anyway (the jazzfest, not the town!). The line-up for Bude this year looks good though, although you might like a different sort of jazz to me. I only like "traditional", New Orleans jazz. Cool jazz sends me into an immediate depression!

I've been to various ones over the years but I think most of them face the problem that jazz isn't all that popular and so they are hard to sustain. There used to be one in Plymouth that we went to a few times, but the last time it got extended from the usual long weekend thing to a whole week and I presume it overreached itself (and broke the bank?) because I don't think it ever ran again. I remember going to something mid-week that was something you'd have expected to be fairly popular (a blues guitarist) and it was virtually empty. Our mainstays now are Limerick and Cork, especially the former. They keep it short and simple - it starts on Thursday evening, usually quite small things spread over a few pubs around the town, then 2 or 3 events on Fri and Sat, and a closing session on Sunday afternoon. I think they are realistic about how many people they might get and tailor the venues accordingly. Last year, the first "proper" one since 2019, they ditched the usual Thursday evening in favour of a thing that involved a mix of fairly experimental jazz and passages recited from Ulysses (it was the centenary year and they decided to get in on the act). I didn't want to go, got dragged along by Mrs P (who afterwards claimed to have enjoyed it) but many people clearly agreed with me because the venue was fairly empty even though they had gone with one of the regular small ones, and it was even emptier after the interval. They must have lost money on it, and I doubt they can afford to lose very much. By far the biggest in Ireland is Bray but it hasn't run for the last few years. I don't think they've officially thrown in the towel, but they are certainly on sabbatical.
Have you seen the tv series Tremé? It's set in New Orleans in the aftermath of the major hurricane of whenever it was. I was very disappointed by the first few episodes because I had expected something that was more along the lines of some sort of cross between a documentary and a story, but loads of the time was just music. However, once you realised that was the main thing, it became really enjoyable, and we ended up watching all 4 series. If you like New Orleans music, I think you'd really enjoy it. We watched it via an inexpensive set of 2nd hand DVDs, I don't know how else it might be available.

First soprano, "My train is late" Second soprano "Mine too" Hope they cleared up after themselves. I just love the expression on the faces of the people when a soprano starts belting out music right next to them! We looked at a number of flashmobs today but this is my favourite because of audience reaction.

Oh my goodness, I wasn't expecting that! Just when I was thinking how wonderful it was, along came the acrobats! It takes a special kind of nerve/confidence to turn around from buying flowers and suddenly burst into song. The whole thing was brilliant
PS. I don't want to be greedy but do we have a "clap" smiley?

Oh my goodness, I wasn't expecting that! Just when I was thinking how wonderful it was, along came the acrobats! It takes a special kind of nerve/confidence to turn around from buying flowers and suddenly burst into song. The whole thing was brilliant I'm glad you liked it. I thought it was tremendous fun. My husband preferred one of the Beethoven's Nineths simply because he very much likes the Nineth; however, I think the reaction to the Orff is wonderful. As you say, buying flowers and then burst into song. And there was a woman who went to tell her husband(?) that some woman was just singing! Brilliant. PS. I don't want to be greedy but do we have a "clap" smiley? We do now. I put in a few that might be suitable. Let me know if they aren't. I've flattened them so they aren't animated as a couple of people have mentioned migraines and I'm concerned about triggering anything with flashing stuff! You can have as many smileys as you like - just mentioned and I'll go through the folder or further afield.

Good! If anyone wants a particular smiley just yell. As I say, corenfa gave me the whole folder and there are smileys and then some! I could give you space for you to install your own smileys as well if you want. I wasn't sure if people wanted to mess about like that! If anyone does, then yell and I'll install the plugin.
